Who do you submit to?

One of the hardest lessons that God is teaching me right now is understanding timing. I don’t believe there is enough emphasis, scrutiny, and attention paid to how important time really is. When I think about all the things I desire in life, they all have the common denominator of being “what will make ME happy or successful”... And quite honestly, if it were on my timing... I’d have it all right now, today, with no delay #smh. It’s this selfish intent, the human condition, and the nature we are all born with that creates this characteristic of impatience. It’s funny how we all seem to know what’s best for ourselves until we receive what we thought we wanted, and realize that’s not at all what we actually need.

So right now, I’m currently walking through what seems to be the great mile. Understanding God’s timing for things in my life verses my own timing. Logically, it makes sense to follow God’s time table becauas he knows what I don’t know and sees what I can’t see because he’s #omnipresent. However, living it out proves to be more difficult and that’s the part worth discussing. Everyone can tell you what the word says, but it’s living the word that is our greatest challenge. It’s being obedient to where God desires me to be instead of selfishly going where I desire to go just because. It’s a very difficult characteristic to navigate because the flesh is always at war with the spirit. Galatians 5:17 tells us:

17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[a] you want.

So you can imagine the constant need to remain present in the word for confirmation, reminders, and structure. It’s a delicate dance of “hurry up and wait”. The crazy thing is I don’t know exactly where I’d be going or what Id be running to. Sometimes our flesh tells us, there’s something better or greater over there... wherever “there” is. When in actuality, the greatness is really on the inside of us. It’s really about manifesting that and growing right where you are planted. So my prayer for myself and everyone at war with their flesh is this:

Dear Heavenly Father,

Give us the mind to stay focused on you in the midst of our every day life. Give us the desire to follow your lead and to deny our selfish desires to go astray. Allow us to feel your presence and guidance transcending upon us for we know that we were called according to our purpose in your kingdom. God give us the heart of repentance and humility to know that we are not perfect in any way... and that in order to truly see your Glory in our lives we must decrease our egos and self righteousness. We love you father and we honor you. We are merely human and desire a closeness with you that reminds we are not alone. A reminder that we should not be afraid. A reminder that our future rests safely in your hands. Your word tells us surely #goodness and #mercy will follow us, all the days of our lives. Father continue to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Even in moments of doubt father your love is stable and unwavering . We thank you for being you. May our hearts continue to seek your face and our life be made whole in you. In Jesus name we pray,

Amen.

Scriptures for the road:

Psalm 23:6 New International Version (NIV)

Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

1 Peter 5:6-7 New International Version (NIV)

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Psalm 1:1-3 New International Version (NIV)

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streamsof water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.
