"Be in this space between the ending and the beginning of something new. It is a scary place for me as I begin to work through my life without this relationship in it. Be between what was - the memories, the dreams, and the hopes - and what is to come." - A Prayer by Patricia Wilson - Book "Quiet Spaces"

It can be very scary and uncertain... this space. It can be the one thing that you value currently but don't feel you have enough of. Some individuals enjoy it.. some don't look forward to it at all. At any rate, I want to discuss moving through it. When space is unfavorable it could be for different reasons such as the space between a recent ending (Job, relationship, friendship) and waiting for the new beginning. It could be the space requested by our counterparts which is intended to imply a need of distance between people. Questions may come like how long do you need space? Why do you need space? Is it just from me? All of these are valid questions when space is bestowed upon you unfavorably. During this time, space is out of your control... and the waiting period is currently indefinite. This can create an unwanted tension in your chest which seems to occupy your thoughts constantly.

On the contrary, when space is favorable and needed as much as oxygen is to breathing you view space in a different light and emotional capacity. Questions may arise such as What can I get done with this space? How can I be productive in the space? What can I do to relax in this space? When space is what you desire it seems as if it couldn't come soon enough. So based upon which side of the space spectrum you are on can determine how you tie your emotions to it, or so we often think. The optimistic, forward, and self improving way to see space is always seeing it as an advantage whether it is voluntary or involuntary.

Dear Students,

Often times there are situations that arise in your life that you may be uncomfortable with the space. We are some times placed in uncomfortable situations to test our growth and maturity. Use your space wisely at all times. Encourage yourself in whatever spaces you may encounter. If your life is always focused on making sure spaces are filled there is no possible way growth can be let in. Yes, sometimes space is scary because you don't know when that time of space will end. It can also be the best thing to ever happen to you because space can also bring about clarity. Which ever side of the spectrum you may fall into, space is a place for individual growth and development. So in every situation regarding space... keep going, keep learning and keep growing.
